On Saturday, Aug. 25 and Sunday, Aug. 26, a Civil War Reenactment Commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Medical Evacuation of wounded soldiers will be held at the Fairfax Station Railroad Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
The event will honor Clara Barton, "Angel of the Battle Field," and Founder of the Red Cross. Steeped in Civil War history, the Fairfax Station Railroad Depot was once the hub of a growing community in the 1800s.
During the Civil War, Barton tended to thousands of soldiers who were sent from the Fairfax Station depot to Alexandria and Washington hospitals. The station was an early triage site and the railroad was used for mass transportation for a large-scale disaster evacuation.
In addition, the Museum will be open Thursday, Aug. 23 to preview the 150th Anniversary exhibit. The exhibit will continue to be displayed August 27 through September 3. Check the Museum phone message for times.
